About Peckham Bazaar

Since its 2014 refit, Peckham Bazaar has evolved from a scrappy, energetic spot slinging bold, Ottoman-inspired fare into a truly standout neighbourhood restaurant. Now housed in a more refined dining space, the action has moved indoors to a spruced-up room clad in warm, orange-stained wood panelling and pistachio-green walls—evoking a nostalgic nod to 1980s Greek island holidays.

Happily, the revamp hasn’t dulled the fire in the kitchen. If anything, the food is more confident than ever, with the charcoal grill continuing to deliver the same punchy, smoky flavours that earned the restaurant its cult following. The menu is an ode to rustic Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean cooking, and it delivers the goods at very reasonable prices.

Seafood is a particular strength—think dukkah-spiced mackerel on fragrant, dill-studded rice or tender chunks of grilled octopus paired with vibrant dollops of homemade taramasalata. Each dish sings with authenticity and care, best enjoyed alongside a glass from the fascinating selection of Greek and Balkan wines, which offers plenty to discover for oenophiles and casual drinkers alike.

Service leans towards the relaxed—so much so that diners may occasionally feel they’re directing the evening themselves—but the genuine charm of the staff more than makes up for any casual missteps. And when you’re seated out on the fairy-lit terrace on a balmy summer night, the unhurried pace simply enhances the laid-back, holiday-like atmosphere.

In short, Peckham Bazaar remains a local gem: unfussy, soulful, and utterly transporting.
